Today morning when I woke up, the first thing that caught my attention was the newspaper. Although every morning I look at it but never has the first page caught my attention the way it did today. Its often said that a book should never be judged by its cover but today’s paper could be judged by its cover and that too correctly! It was a blank page with pigeons flying and a brief writeup..Nothing fancy and loud. Understated and simple but eye catching. Two words never seen together ‘love’ and ‘Pakistan’ were written together and this was the thing which made me sit wide awake.
When I read it I found out about ‘aman ki asha’ , an indo-pak peace project by Pakistan’s Jang group and India’s Times of India group. What touched me was the core idea behind it that the people of both countries want peace. Because of some hardliners and selfish politicians, the common people of both the countries are suffering. Bureaucrats sitting in their plush airconditioned offices just pass orders and comments, they donot endure the backlash of their actions, it is people like you and me who have to bear the brunt.
But the politicos are not the only ones to be blamed. We are educated people capable of finding out and knowing what’s right and what is wrong . Today the moment a child is born, he is directly fed with the milk of hatred for our neighbour. We should realise that impregnating the mind of a child with prejudice before even giving him a chance to find out the truth is in no way going to make things easy. People should also realise that Pakistanis are not the villians, they are people just like us who want to live their lives normally and peacefully, villians are just a few people on both side of borders with vested interests. Let not the hatred blind our vision of our shared future.
The coming generations should not be condemned to a life of strife. There is no need for our future to remain hostage to our past. As a youth of this country it is our duty to support this wonderfully refreshing initiative and hope that one day the words love, India and Pakistan together in a single line do not seem so incongruous.
